Ready, Set, Fuse
Part 2
2026
Textile print / risograph / photo print
The project, Ready, Set, Fuse, emerged from reflections on my identity as a Korean person living overseas. For part two of the project, I used elements of dancheong. Dancheong, the ornate painted decoration on wooden beams and walls, enriches buildings through symbolic motifs and diverse pattern combinations.
As it was the case with part one, the main focus was on simplifying individual elements while maintaining the complexity of the overall composition. By reducing traditional motifs to their essential forms and reorganizing them, I aimed to preserve key visual characteristics of dancheong while exploring new possibilities for pattern creation and expression. The resulting designs aim to balance abstraction and tradition, creating a connection between historical references and contemporary visual language.
